A Preview of Yuletide: A Jane Austen Inspired Collection of Stories (Audiobook), Narrated by Harry Frost

Yuletide: A Jane Austen-Inspired Collection of Stories (Audiobook), edited by Christina Boyd, read by Harry Frost (2019)Hey-ho Gentle Readers!

The holiday season is quickly approaching with all of its delights. My local radio station started playing Christmas music the day after Veterans Day. Retailers are hanging garland and stocking their tables with gift-giving fare. A friend told me that they are finished with their shopping and have already mailed their gifts. It’s not even Thanksgiving and I am behind!

Desperate to get myself in the seasonal mood I coincidently learned of the new release of the audiobook of Yuletide: A Jane Austen Inspired Collection of Stories. I had read the book last year, so this was a nice surprise. It contains seven Pride and Prejudice-inspired stories set during the holiday season in Regency and modern-day. You can read my review of Yuletide for a summary of the stories and my impressions. Here are the book description and audio excerpts from the publisher.

I went up to the Great House between three and four, and dawdled away an hour very comfortably….” — Jane Austen

A holiday short story anthology with some favorite Austenesque authors, Yuletide is inspired by Jane Austen, Pride and prejudice, and the spirit of the season. Regency and contemporary alike, each romance was dreamt to spark love, humor, and wonder while you dawdle over a hot cup of tea this Christmas.

  • Chapter 1: Opening Credits
  • Chapter 2: “The Forfeit” by Caitlin Williams
  • Chapter 3: “And Evermore Be Merry” by Joana Starnes
  • Chapter 4: “The Wishing Ball” by Amy D’Orazio
  • Chapter 5: “By a Lady” by Lona Manning
  • Chapter 6: “Homespun for the Holidays” by J. Marie Croft
  • Chapter 7: “The Season for Friendly Meetings” by Anngela Schroeder
  • Chapter 8: “Mistletoe Management” by Elizabeth Adams
  • Chapter 9: Closing Credits

  • “…the perfect book to finish my year; it is diverse with a little bit of everything but also consistency in the quality of the writing and the ability to keep the reader engaged.” — Rita Deodato, From Pemberley to Milton
  • “…like snowflakes, each story of this collection is wonderfully unique and distinctly beautiful! And the whole collection together is an enchanting and exquisite Christmas scene that truly is a generous gift to all!” — Meredith Esparza, Austenesque Reviews
  • “…the readers who are addicted to the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies will expect there to be plenty of treacle and twee, while those who prefer the deeper message of A Christmas Carol will require some substance. I am happy to say that there is a mixture of sentiment and parable in Yuletide.” — Laurel Ann Nattress, Austenprose.com

  1. Thank you for being part of our mini-tour, Laurel Ann. I was delighted from your email that you enjoyed this audiobook as well as the performance of our British narrator Harry Frost. We were fortunate to work with such a talented voice actor — given the numerous characters in these stories set in different eras and or countries.

Anyway, thank you again. Hope your readers will give YULETIDE a listen. We think #YuleLoveIt.

    1. Thank you, Sheila! So glad you enjoyed it. I think this makes for perfect listening as we travel this holiday season— even in the car —as the stories are all chaste! and full of sweet, thoughtful and even amusing moments.

  2. Yep, this one definitely gets one in the mood for Christmas and the holiday season. It’s so lush and festive with the Austen touch. And, Harry Frost is great.

  3. I loved reading this anthology last year and was contemplating doing the same again this December. Now I don’t have to; I can get the wonderful Harry Frost to do it for me! I spent one of my Audible credits on it last week and it’s waiting for me to either finish my current listen, or reach a point where I can break off once December arrives. As my current listen is Rational Creatures (currently listening to Hetty Bates’s story), you’ll understand why it’ll be relatively easy to stop and then restart later on.

Harry Frost has such a wonderful talent which is ideally suited to this genre. One of the standout stories in his performance of The Darcy Monologues was his reading of From the Ashes by J. Marie Croft, especially the part where Darcy is trying to compose his letter to Elizabeth after the DHP. How Harry mananged to convey the many crossings out and asides was just masterful!

Just wondering when we can expect another anthology from The Quill Collective? I know Christina is a busy lady, but it would be wonderful to have another to look forward to.

    1. Hi Anji, so nice to see you here. I enjoyed Harry’s voice too. He was the perfect match to the stories. I am hoping for another anthology from Christina too. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the next brings a new one. Thanks for visiting. LA

    1. That is wonderful you too like Harry Frost’s voice. He is building his audiobook vitae and has a range of genres so far…we were lucky to work with him again as I am confident he will become a sought after talent. I understand he is booked for work well into 2020 already!
