When I envision Catherine Morland I see Actress Felicity Jones (NA2) in my mind. In a circular way I see some of her and her hair styles from that film version in these cartoons. Do you suppose the inspiration came from that movie? Looks plausible to me.
On a side-note, has anyone seen the amazing cartoons by Sonny Liew in Marvel Comic’s Sense and Sensibility? Talk about some talent!

K in all seriousness I saw the first pic and I was like….humm ok this isn’t too bad but I knew there was something just not right about the pic but yet couldn’t put my finger on exactly WHAT was bothering me and keeping me from LOVING it…. you nailed it…..the beehive hairdo is bugging me!!! BAD!!

And I think the eyes creep me out a bit in the first picture….reminds me a little of my cat….creepy!

I love your comparison of the graphics with Annette Funicella and Frankie Avalon. They do look very similar!! I don’t like the beehive hairdo on Catherine at all.

Hahahaha, that is a pretty remarkable resemblance! I wonder what the illustrator had in mind at the time. I do have to say that I enjoy the graphic novel/comic versions of Jane Austen’s novels so far. They really bring a fresh new approach to Austen. They may not be to everyone’s taste though.
