Welcome to ‘By the Seaside with Sanditon’ a Celebration of Jane Austen’s Last Novel

15 March 2010 by Laurel Ann (Austenprose)

“Sanditon…The finest, purest Sea Breeze on the Coast—acknowledged to be so—Excellent Bathing—fine hard Sand—Deep Water ten yards from the Shore—no Mud—no Weeds—no slimey rocks—Never was there a place more palpably designed by Nature”

Welcome, to ‘By the Seaside with Sanditon’, an in depth look at Jane Austen’s last unfinished novel set in the Sussex seaside village of Sanditon. Included will be a group read and discussion, guest bloggers, and plenty of great giveaways.

Leeches at three. Bring your green parasol!

Good Morning! I enjoyed reading the character list today. I never counted all those minor characters!

In my edition of Sanditon, Mr. Parker’s age is “about five and thirty”. (Chapter two, paragraph four) The character list says that he is fifty-three.

I still have not found a green parasol…

Hi Baja Janeite, Thanks for catching my typo. Yes indeed. Mr. Parker is 35.

I’m a bit behind everyone I think. First time reader of Sanditon and I’ve just finished chapter one and I’m already hooked!

Not too late Bella. The first 4 chapters are a quick read. I look forward to your comments.
