Bridget Jones Returns to the Screen in Mad About the Boy (2025)

From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

More Jane Austen-inspired movie news!

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy the movie premieres in the US tomorrow, February 13th on the streaming service Peacock Channel, and in theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2025.

Two-time Academy Award® winner Renée Zellweger returns to the role that established a romantic-comedy heroine for the ages, as Bridget, now a widowed single mother, must juggle work, parenthood and romance. With the help of her loyal friends, Bridget navigates encounters with a younger man—and a series of awkward interactions with her son’s science teacher—as she strives to forge a new path toward life and love.

Based on the controversal 2013 book by Helen Fielding (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE), Mad About the Boy will be the 4th movie in the Bridget Jones franchise.

Returning in the eponymous title role is Renee Zellweger with Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, and Colin Firth as Daniel Cleaver, Dr. Rawlings, and Mark Darcy respectively.

Anyone who read the 2013 book will know why I am asking for (NO SPOILERS) for anyone who has not read it yet. You can readour extensive review of Bridget Jones Mad About the Boy by clicking this link.

Regardless of the tragic drama, this is a romcom, so hopefully it will have a HEA (happily every after).

  1. I’m not sure if I will watch this. I’ve seen the other three but Colin Firth was the main draw and Bridget is now widowed so……….. I may watch it eventually when it’s on TV.
