Belgravia Returns for Season Two in “The Next Chapter” on MGM+

From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

Great news for fans of the TV period dramas Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age, and Belgravia. Their writer & creator, Julian Fellowes, is now Executive Producer of the second season of Belgravia, with Helen Edmundson as screenwriter. Belgravia: The Next Chapter will premiere on Sunday, January 14 on MGM+ and stars Harriet Slater and Ben Wainwright as Clara Dunn, and Frederick Trenchard, the grandson of James Trenchard from season one.

“I’m so proud of everything this dedicated team accomplished with the original Belgravia series. I cannot wait for the world to return to Belgravia for this new iteration, expertly crafted by Helen Edmundson,” Julian Fellowes, Executive Producer, said in a statement. “Old and new fans alike will be swept off their feet with an emotionally engaging story, memorable characters, and brilliant production and costume design.”

Tasim Greig as Anne Trenchard and Alice Eve as Susan Trenchard in Belgravia, season one.

Belgravia season one was an adaptation of Fellowes’ 2016 novel and premiered as a limited series in 2020. Beginning in 1815 with the Duchess of Richmond’s Ball, held the night before the Battle of Waterloo, the story jumps forward twenty-five years to the 1840s in Belgravia, a posh residential area of London. Belgravia: The Next Chapter begins thirty years later in1871 and continues the lives of the Trenchard family who were also the primary protagonists in season one. Check out the official trailer:

According to Deadline, the new eight-part series “will follow the story of Frederick Trenchard, the third Lord Trenchard, and his love interest, Clara Dunn – a newcomer to London’s high society. Unaware that he is illegitimate, his difficult childhood has left Frederick with major insecurities, challenging his relationship with Clara.”

Benjamin Wainwright as Frederick Trenchard and Harriet Slater as Clara Trenchard in Belgravia: The New Chapter.

For those who watched the original 2020 limited series, you’ll recognize Alice Eve and Richard Goulding who return as Susan and Oliver Trenchard. Here is a list of the new cast members:

I have been re-watching season one of Belgravia (included with an Amazon Prime subscription) in anticipation of season two and am enjoying it greatly, all over again. Fellowes is such a talented creator and writer with a flair for period drama. I am hoping that season two of Belgravia will also succeed with his input and guidance as Executive Producer.
