From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

Hello Dear Readers,

I am so pleased to share a first look at a forthcoming historical romance novel from bestselling author Julie Klassen. The Sisters of Sea View is the first book in a new series and releases on December 6, 2022. I am thrilled to reveal the first details of the novel and its beautiful cover with you today.

Set on the Devonshire coast during the Regency-era, the first novel includes the story of three sisters starting a new life after a devastating loss. The thought of a forthcoming seaside excursion is intriguing. Sea bathing anyone?

Here is a special message from author Julie Klassen who shares with us the inspiration for her new series and the first novel, followed by the cover reveal, and the official book description from the publisher.

Best, Laurel Ann

A MESSAGE FROM AUTHOR JULIE KLASSEN

Dear Readers,

I am excited to give you an insider’s peek at my December 2022 novel, The Sisters of Sea View.

I began dreaming of writing a novel set on the English seaside several years ago after a visit to Cornwall and Devon. I decided to set the novel in Sidmouth because our beloved Jane Austen visited the seaside resort in 1801 with her parents and sister, and many believe she based her unfinished novel, Sanditon, on that Devonshire town.  (Note: in Sense and Sensibility, Jane uses the older term, Devonshire, which is why I chose it for the series title, On Devonshire Shores.)

I began plotting this novel even before Sanditon was adapted for television. But if you enjoy Sanditon as I do, you will find much to enjoy in The Sisters of Sea View as well—romance, family drama, history, and a touch of mystery, all in a charming 19th century seaside setting.

And, in a few characters and lines, you will notice some nods of honor to the great Jane Austen.

The Sisters of Sea View is book one in a new three-book series. In the first book, the Summers sisters, left in reduced circumstances after the death of their father, open their seaside home to guests, and soon find themselves hosting a cast of intriguing characters including an eligible bachelor with an agenda of his own. The upheaval changes the sisters in different ways:

  • Sarah Summers: The older, responsible sister, is soon torn between an unexpected attraction and duty to her family.
  • Viola Summers: The scarred recluse, is forced out of her comfort zone, and her wounded heart will be changed forever.
  • Emily Summers: The beauty of the family, is pining for a lost love, but as she begins penning advertisements for the guest house, her dreams of becoming a writer are renewed.

I can’t wait for you to meet the characters of The Sisters of Sea View, which my editor has said is my best book yet!

Warmly, Julie

COVER REVEAL

Without further ado, here is the gorgeous cover of The Sisters of Sea View.

I was gobsmacked when I first saw this cover. The colors and design are gorgeous. What do you think?

BOOK DESCRIPTION

When their father’s death leaves them impoverished, Sarah Summers convinces her sisters to open their seaside home to guests to provide for their ailing mother. Emily and Georgiana agree, but Viola, who wears a veil to cover a scar, detests the idea.

Determined to stay together, the sisters begin the new venture. Instead of the elderly invalids they expect, however, they find themselves hosting eligible gentlemen. Sarah is torn between a growing attraction to a mysterious Scottish widower and duty to her family. Meanwhile, the new situation exposes Viola’s scars–both the visible and those hidden deep within–and her cloistered heart will never be the same.

  1. I read “The Girl in the Gatehouse” several years ago and enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to this new novel with nods to Austen and seaside Sanditon.

  2. That cover is beautifully realistic and inviting. It looks as though we could just walk into it and stroll the shore with them. I have read a dozen of Julie Klassen’s books and always enjoy them.
