Summerhaven: A Regency Romance, by Tiffany Odekirk — A Review

From the desk of Katie Patchell:

Dear readers, what I am about to say will have you thanking your lucky stars: if this was a space for spoiler-filled reviews, I would have written a word count of thousands. Fortunately for us all, this shall be as abridged and spoiler-free as possible; a tricky task, as Tiffany Odekirk’s 2022 debut, Summerhaven, keeps one guessing about the heroine’s journey to a happy ending until the very last pages. Miss Lattimore’s Letter: A Novel, by Suzanne Allain — A Review

From the desk of Sophia Rose:

It all started when a Wallflower wrote a letter.

After the sparkling and fun hit, Mr. Malcolm’s List, author Suzanne Allain returns with Miss Lattimore’s Letter,  a new, engaging Regency romp featuring an unexpected and reluctant matchmaker and a social season in Bath to determine the outcome of her efforts. A light and quick read for wiling away a few pleasurable reading moments.

Wyndcross: A Regency Romance (Families of Dorset Book 1), by Martha Keyes — A Review

From the desk of Katie Patchell:

Henry Tilney (of Northanger Abbey fame) is an underrated hero of a vastly underrated novel. It’s almost impossible for me to name a favorite Jane Austen work, as (like all the best stories) each speaks into one’s life in different ways and seasons. Yet if I applied myself to the question—and ducked away from Mr. Knightley’s accusing gaze—I would have to say that yes, Northanger Abbey is my favorite and Henry Tilney the best of all heroic Henrys. In Wyndcross, the first in Martha Keyes’ “Families of Dorset” series, a hero quite like Mr. Tilney is accompanied by Kate, a heroine as willing to brave danger as Austen’s own Catherine Morland. Matchless Margaret: The Hapgoods of Bramleigh (Book 4), by Christina Dudley — A Review

From the desk of Katie Patchell:

Who has seen the 1999 Wives and Daughters miniseries, adapted from Elizabeth Gaskell’s Victorian classic? It’s a powerful study of 19th-century life in a small English village, played by a phenomenal cast. Because of the miniseries, I recently devoured the 720-page volume and subsequently forced a family member to read it (which was a heroic accomplishment, because this specific family member has “Large Book Phobia”). Who can forget Squire Hamley, the character who acts like a character? To him, the Hamleys of Hamley Hall have a long history of honor to uphold…but they never quite live up to his Continue reading “Matchless Margaret: The Hapgoods of Bramleigh (Book 4), by Christina Dudley — A Review  “

A Mistletoe Mismatch: A Christmas Match (Book 4), by Sally Britton — A Review

From the desk of Katie Jackson:

The thought of love at Christmastime is enough to warm the heart, but when it is set in the midst of pleasant Regency-era traditions, snowy sleigh rides, and cheerful firesides, it’s certain to appeal to the hopeless romantic in us all. It is just such an inviting scene that awaits readers in prolific Regency author Sally Britton’s A Mistletoe Mismatch, book four of five in the new A Christmas Match series, which provides a standalone holiday tale from each of several popular historical romance authors. A Preview & Exclusive Excerpt of The Astronomer’s Obsession, by K. Lyn Smith

From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

Happy Friday, dear readers. Landing on the blog today is a debut historical romance novel by K. Lyn Smith involving a 19th century scientist and an artist who are friends, and unexpectantly become lovers while working together.

The Astronomer’s Obsession is an intriguing title. What could possibly be more interesting to a scientist than his passion for his quest for knowledge? Is this a Regency science geek finds true love story? Continue reading “A Preview & Exclusive Excerpt of The Astronomer’s Obsession, by K. Lyn Smith”

A Preview & Exclusive Excerpt of Kingscastle: A Classic Regency Romance in the Tradition of Georgette Heyer, by Sophia Holloway

From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

Happy Friday, dear readers. Fall is an exciting time for book lovers with so many new titles being released before the holiday season. It’s always a challenge to narrow down our options. I was struck by the gorgeous cover of Kingscastle, a new Regency romance by Sophia Holloway. Yes, I am shallow and freely admit to being swayed by a beautiful book cover.

Kingscastle was released yesterday by British publisher Allison & Busby. Holloway is the author of two previous historical novels set during the same time: The Devil You Know, & Bless Thine Inheritance. The subtitle Continue reading “A Preview & Exclusive Excerpt of Kingscastle: A Classic Regency Romance in the Tradition of Georgette Heyer, by Sophia Holloway”

The Debutante’s Code: Thorndike and Swann (Book 1), by Erica Vetsch — A Review

From the desk of Sophia Rose:

“If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, then she must seek them abroad.” Jane Austen says of Catherine Morland in the beginning pages of Northanger Abbey. However, what is true for Catherine is decidedly not true for Lady Juliette Thorndike or the young Bow Street Runner trying to solve his first big case. Erica Vetsch introduces a sparkling new mystery series set in Regency London featuring an intrepid and unlikely detecting pair and a cunning mystery. My 15 Favorite Christmas Historical Romance Novels of 2021

From the desk of Laurel Ann Nattress:

Happy Friday, dear readers! ‘Tis the season to read Christmas-inspired stories, and this year there is an amazing line-up of new historical romance novels, novellas, and short stories to deck your halls or fill up your eReader.

Interestingly, the prevailing theme this year appears to be kissing brought on by standing under the mistletoe! I wonder what ambitious mother thought up that tradition to get her daughter married? Continue reading “My 15 Favorite Christmas Historical Romance Novels of 2021”

Love and Lavender: A Mayfield Family Romance (Book 4), by Josi S. Kilpack — A Review

From the desk of Katie Patchell:

Unconventional heroines are becoming more common in Regency-inspired fiction, which is something worthy of applause. Perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise, given the genre’s beloved originator. Jane Austen was the queen of unconventional heroines living in a conventional world; something Elizabeth Bennet, Catherine Morland, and company attest to. But I ask: how often do we Janeites discover an equally unconventional hero? Josi S. Kilpack shares just that in Love and Lavender, her recent addition to the Mayfield Family saga. Both a unique romance and a sympathetic study of physical limitations in the Regency world, Love and Lavender shines a spotlight on two very unconventional leads.
