An Ivy Hill Christmas: A Tales from Ivy Hill Novella, by Julie Klassen

An Ivy Hill Christmas: A Tales from Ivy Hill Novella, by Julie KlassenI gasped when the announcement of a holiday book by Julie Klassen arrived in my inbox last week. My elation, however, was short-lived. Amazon was alerting me to a book that will be published on September 1, 2020!

WHAT? A holiday book that I cannot read for ten months is like telling your kids on Christmas day that all their gifts were mislabeled and are not for them!

For those who enjoyed Klassen’s Tales of Ivy Hill series this is a spinoff story featuring Richard Brockwell, the estranged younger son of the prominent local family who lives in London and has not returned home from the holidays for years. While there he re-encounters his first love and faces some old family secrets. This new novella does sound intriguing, so please add it to your Goodreads list and if you are very good girls and boys you can read it in due time. Read our review.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Richard Brockwell, the younger son of Ivy Hill’s most prominent family, hasn’t been home for Christmas in years. He prefers to live in the London townhouse, far away from Brockwell Court, the old family secret that haunts him, and the shadows of his past mistakes. But then his mother threatens to stop funding his carefree life–unless he comes home for Christmas. Out of options, he sets out for Ivy Hill, planning to be back on a coach bound for London and his unencumbered bachelor life as soon as the festivities are over.

But Christmas in the country presents unforeseen surprises, including encounters with an orphaned apprentice, the first love he disappointed years ago, and Arabella Awdry, a young lady who is far more appealing than he recalled . . . and determined to have nothing to do with him.

Will Christmastime in Ivy Hill, with its village charm, kissing boughs, joyous songs, and divine hope, work its magic in his heart . . . and hers as well?

  1. Thank you for including our YULETIDE in this holiday list of recommended reads—such good company. I adored Stephanie Barron’s Twelve Days of Christmas as well as Mimi Matthews’ A Holiday by Gaslight. So many other good reads I need to make time for too.

  2. Okay, apparently I’m a historical holiday romance addict because I’ve read and adored all, but two and one of those is that teaser coming out next year. :)

Thanks for the list. Didn’t know about the Dickens series.

  3. These are terrific choices! I’m reading my first Matthews now, and read a Griep for the first time this year and loved them both. Add my favourite setting, holidays, and I’m so eager to try these out. The Willig is one of my favourites too (love that Turnip!), though I’d advocate for Snow Angel and A Christmas Promise as two of Balogh’s best holiday romances.

    1. Miss Bates. It appears that we are kindred spirits when it comes to reading choices. I will check out Snow Angel and A Christmas Promise, because, you know I can’t stop with the Christmas stories yet. Happy Holidays, La

  4. The Mischief and the Mistletoe is hands-down my favorite Regency Christmas story. I don’t remember ever laughing so hard at a book before. I also loved the bonus wedding night scene on the author’s website. If you don’t feel the need to get up close and personal with the characters, stop after the first chapter. It’s even more funny than the mystery-romance.

Carols and Chaos is on my library hold list and will hopefully be in this week. I enjoyed Jane and the 12 Days of Christmas but it’s bittersweet, inching closer to the date of her death. I’m hoping Stephanie Barron will find some way to keep Jane alive and solving mysteries.

I will have to look for the Dickens book next year. The Christmas Carol is my favorite Christmas story.

  5. Wait, Georgette Heyer? There’s a Georgette Heyer collection I haven’t read?

Laurel Ann, I’m honored that you included our Christmas anthology in your collection, but am truly gobsmacked to discover the Heyer collection. Thank you!
