Everything Austen Challenge X Two

Everything Austen ChallengeWe are so happy to see that the Everything Austen Challenge at Stephanie’s Written Word blog has had such an outstanding response. As of today, there are over 115 participants ready and willing to read and or watch six Austen or Austen inspired books, or view movie adaptations and spinoffs over the next six months. Sign-ups continue through July 15th, so don’t delay. There is an abundance of all around Austen geekiness and prizes too! Here is our list of six choices to meet the challenge:

Movies:

Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Sense and Sensibility (1971)

Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice (1995)

Books:

Love, Lies and Lizzie, by Rosie Rushton

Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, by Amanda Grange

The Other Mr. Darcy, by Monica Fairview

Darcy and Anne, by Judith Brocklehurst

As we mentioned in our post on Jane Austen Today, we are very happy to participate – but fear that we shall meet six more quickly than we would like to reveal. So in the genteel spirit of Austen one-upmanship, we raise your ante of six Austen inspired books or movies to twelve by January 2010. That’s two Austen inspired books or movies a month. SO easy, you won’t even have to try, right? Here is our second set of movies and books:

Movies:

Clueless (1995)

Persuasion (1996)

Cher and Dion in Clueless (1995)

Books:

Prada and Prejudice, by Mandy Hubbard

Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict, by Laurie Viera Rigler

Darcy’s Hunger, by Regina Jeffers

Willoughby’s Return, by Jane Odiwe

To participate, sign up for the Everything Austen Challenge and follow Stephanie’s protocol for reading/viewing and posting your choices. If you meet the Everything Austen Challenge X Two by reading and or viewing 12 Austen inspired books or movies by January 2010, you will be eligible not only for the drawing of copy of a Lost in Austen DVD, but also for a copy of a book or movie of your choice from my reading/viewing list that I am throwing in the pot.

Hope everyone enjoys their choices. I am looking forward to mine.

Cheers, Laurel Ann

  1. What a great idea indeed! Excessively diverting. Especially since I’ve been struggling with just six! I’m off to expand my list on my blog!!!

  2. Laurel Ann,

I couldn’t even make an attempt to trim my list when I signed up for everything Austen. I think I ended up at about 23 books, so I am definitely joining X2.

  3. Ahh! I’m going to read Mr. Darcy, Vampyre as well! I can’t wait for that one to come out. I’ve never heard of Darcy and Anne – it looks quite good, though! And I believe I too shall be upping my Austen quota. I went to put the films I’d chosen for the original challenge on my Netflix queue and found more that seemed interesting. Will update my Everything Austen challenge presently!

(thanks for hosting this mini-challenge…I gobble up anything Austen, and this will at least prolong the experience a bit)

  4. I already had 10 Austen era garments on my to-do list for the next six months (and you can’t possibly make Regency garments without watching Jane Austen movies as you sew), so I am totally the 12 challenge!

  8. This is very exciting, I just wrote down 6 Jane Austen challenges, then doubled the number to 12 without any problems at all.

So looking forward to this. One item is a Jane Austen sampler from The Gift of Stitching magazine that I have received for the last few years, but haven’t actually made anything from the magazine yet. This is a great incentive, what better than a Jane-related sampler?!

    cheers

  11. Can I still join in and double the Everything Austen fun from 6 to 12?
I’ve ordered more JA books and dvd’s, also Lady Susan.
(but it can take some time until I receive them, so I’m not in time (?) for your Lady Susan soiree I’m afraid)
I think I got the JA virus. LOL
Thanks for all your information! :)

  12. Yes I’m already on the Everything Austen List :o)
I’m reading your review every week after I’ve watched Lost in Austen that I’m watching on tv now for the challenge, next week the last episode.
    (No I’m not peeking) :o)

I forgot about online reading (oops) LOL
I’ll look into that, I hope to receive my JA orders this weekend or next week at the latest. I’ll make my 6 JA related Things list into 12 JA related Things list than.

I’ll let you know what I’ll do about Lady Susan after I’ve read some more about her online.
(I ♥ holding a book in my hands, but who knows)
    :o)

  13. Hi Laurel Ann,

I’ve read the first letter of Lady Susan online, and I’m thinking this is another good way to practice my English so yes I’m happy joining the soiree while the party is starting and I will make a comment overthere next.

(and I’ll make a 12x JA list soon)

    Thanks for all the fun!
    :o)
